Valorie Beer is director of learning and development at E*TRADE Group. She earned her B.A. degree (1979) in Anthropology at The George Washington University, Washington D.C., and both her M.S.Ed. degree (1981) and Ph.D. degree (1985) in education (curriculum and instruction) at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Before joining E*TRADE, she held various technical and management training and organization development positions at Xerox, Western Digital, Apple Computer, and Netscape Communications.

Dr. Beer's main professional activities have focused on the thoughtful use of technology in support of educational goals and workplace productivity. She has published numerous articles on education in nonschool settings, educational evaluation and strategies for organization development. She is the coauthor (with Clay Carr) of Personal Job Power (Peterson's, 1996).

Dr. Beer is a frequent workshop presenter and keynote speaker at professional and academic conferences in the training, educational technology, and organization development fields. She has served as an Advocate of the International Society for Performance Improvement and is an Affiliate Research Scientist at the Institute for Research on Learning.
